My dealer hung a brand new leftover 2016 75hp motor today and the vapor tank failed out of the crate, Is this somewhat common? Anything to do with it being crated for so long? kind of worries me it has issues right away. My 08 ran awesome until I hit a boulder a few weeks ago 👎

If you sat for 3 year you’d probably have a few problems yourself. :)

Yes. I replaced a high pressure pump in a Yamaha 90 today. It had been in the crate since last August. Sitting is THE WORST thing for fuel system components.

When you say the “vapor tank failed”, what exactly does that mean?

Not sure exactly they installed it today and said it was running very rough and missing, then called me back later and said they needed to replace vapor tank.

The vst can fail and allow gasoline into the intake. The electric pump can also fail and that starves the engine of fuel and cause 55 volt system voltage loss. These engines are all test run at the factory prior to shipment so they aren’t “0 hour” engines.

Poor choice of wording on my part I was just clarifying that is brand new not a used motor even though it's a 2016. You know vastly more then me, I will just sit back and be patient. I suppose I am a bit antsy since my boats been down since 5/10

Could of also being just a stuck float in the VST, easy fix and can happen when they sit for a while even more so if the box is say stored vertically and upside down.

Evinrude states in their minimum warranty service requirements that water pump impellers need to be replaced every 3 years for valid warranty whether motor is ran or stored.

I'd get a new water pump installed by the dealer on his dime.  He wants desperately to sell that 3 year old showroom flooring costs interest sucking vulture.

As a dealer tech I've only seen one stuck VST float out of the crate ,(presumed to be from dried test fuel). Evinrude's best in the industry warranty program promptly replaced the VST instead of giving any excuses like "you shouldn't have left it in the crate so long.
No worries Tiller_man, just a symptom of long term storage.

It’s just the VST it’s a recall in 2016. Nothing to worry about. They just changed the pump (vendor) awesome job on the dealer.

Thanks all for the replys.
Dealer said once running they will determine if it needs impeller replaced. I assume I got a good deal since it was a "3 year old show floor taking, interest sucking vulture!". 6900 with tiller arm included and 5 year warranty going right now, everything else I looked at was quite a bit more.
