I’m planning to delete my analog speedometer gauge. Rather than plug the pitot tube in my console behind the gauge, i’d like to remove the tube at the motor and remove it if it’s not difficult. Is it just a matter of disconnecting from the lower unit and pulling it out? Does it run through the rigging hose?

Thanks,

The speedometer pick up tube on the gearcase cannot be removed. The hose is better to be plugged at the connection point under the engine cover.. This is how the engine ships whe new.

Exactly how the water hose for the Pitot tube speedometer is installed on your boat between the gauge and the engine will be difficult for others to know. If you don't see the water hose for the Pitot tube speedometer being run outside of the rigging cable bundle, then the water tube for the Pitot tube speedometer is probably run inside the rigging cable bundle. Discovering the path of the water hose for the Pitot tube speedometer should not be difficult if a close visual examination is made of the boat rigging.

Ok, that can’t be true. Here are two pics of the same tube zip tied onto the pitot fitting and then heading into the mid-section. I’m sure I can just cut the tube and pull it up into the motor housing and plug the pitot with 5200 to stop the water input.

To jimh‘s point, I have confirmed the tube must run through the rigging. So my question is really, are there any additional connection points under the cowling or does it run all the way to the speedo without “stopping”?

Removing the hose and fitting on the gearcase was not phrased in your question. You can remove the hose from the fitting and cap off the fitting to accomplish what you wish to achieve.

Get a 1/8" or 3/16" vacuum hose cap and zip tie it on the fitting on the lower unit and leave the rest of the hose in place in case you want to reinstall the speedo in the future.
