Hey all,
I currently have a 2016 115hp etec, I'm looking at buying a 2005 250hp etec,
Anyone know if I can do a direct swap with my rigging or will it now work?

Yes. System check wire harness, control, control cables, oil tank fit from 115 to 300hp
steeringnsytem for the 250 must be hydraulic not mechanical.
what is the hp rating on your boat. Looks to be a massive jump in hp for which the boat may not be rated.

I have a 23' pontoon, it does have hydraulic steering already, the rating is for a 150 and I'll have to check the tag but I think 12 person capacity, it does only have 2 tons but I have seen others with a 250 on it, can I go that big without too much issue?

This could be a risky move on many levels. You could damage the boat if the transom cant handle the additional weight and force exerted on it. Your insurance company, they may not insure the boat if overpowered. If there is ever an accident you could be held liable. Most dealers will not rig a boat for more hp than the max rating because they could be held liable for an accident as well. If the Coast Guard or local authorities catch this they could deem it unsafe and impound the vessel. Typically you cannot exceed the maximum rated hp by more than 10% unless you have the manufacturer re-certify your current hull for a higher hp rating. If they do recertify for a higher hp rating they will then replace the original placard with a new one indicating the new max hp rating. Sounds like you may be opening up a can of worms by re-powering that far over the max rating.

Some states also have laws against overpowering a boat plus you could be involved in a nasty legal issue and possibly held liable should there be an accident.

you have been advised Below by seahorse and Hydrasports to not make this repower for the legal reasons. Believe them, don’t make this repower.
one more installation issue and another reason you must not repower above 150hp rating is that smart builders use a hydraulic steering system rated for max 150 hp.
