Hi All - Captain Ed from Martha's Vineyard MA

SOOOO happy to have rediscovered this Etec Group - there is so much evinrude bashing out there, I dont completely get it but here we are.

I have had a 250 Etec for 15 seasons now, and have been very happy.  Re powering to a 300 HP G2. Would be great to hear from some owners.

Hoping for some love after all the vitriol! hahah   I dont think I am really worried about parts or warranty so much, but I was on a boat with 2 4st Suzikies and was very impressed how quiet - so that is the only thing

For the record, the larger g2s seemed to get snapped up fairly quickly after the announcement .

Anyway happy to be here.

10 year warranty, no dealer winterizing, more efficient, built in power steering, no lighter engine including power steering, massive torque (equivalent to a naturally aspirated 6 litre 4 stroke), less maintenance than 4 stroke, looks great, sounds great at full throttle.

Can't understand why anyone would consider anything else.

i re powered from a pair of Honda 225 - to a pair of 300 G2's - chalk and cheese.
My typical run is 30mins at 6 knots and then about 40-60knots for about 45mins. Honda's consumed about 20 litres more fuel and couldn't get to 60 knots.
Honda's were quieter but nothing worth going on about, do get a bit of a petrol smell when coming down to 6 knots but nothing much. There is a lot of plastic but no issues yet.
Torque is amazing hits 60mph in 9 secs.

The common theme on this forum is that you are heavily dependent on the ability of your dealer and it appears more so than with other manufactures although since you are here you will be in safe hands with any issues if you post first.

10 year warranty is no more on new engine purchase.

As much as I like my G2 300 unless I could buy one for 1/2 price I am not sure I would buy one in the current market.  I have had warrantied work done on mine since the announcement and other than waiting a long time to get it in the shop the work has been prompt.  I have 16 months left on my warranty and I fully believe it will be honored.  I would not bank on new engines being warrantied for 5-10 years.  I am sure parts that are commonly replaced will be OK, but what will happen if it is a part that seldom fails, will the part still be available.  I can't imagine brp having a big stock of powerheads to last a 5-10 year warranty.

Most of the present E. dealer shops will have to take on other brands work to pay the bills and keep the doors open.  Some in this area have already dropped BRP/E.

Get the G2 EV Diagnostics software V6 ASAP before it disappears from the market along with test interface cables kit

Lay in a supply of yearly service supplies and parts recommended by your present dealer as common failures.

Why set at the docks with a dead motor and parts on BO or NLA.

Especially critical if it's a commercial boat with monthly bills and booked customers.
