I will be repowering my boat over the next couple months, and as I am currently in the process of prepping the console, engine bracket, etc, My steering seems like it needs some attention.

I will be repowering with twin 200HO to 250, my current helm is a sea star tilt 1.7 cu in HH5741.

I can get the same disp in the newer version, with twin G2’s big blocks would I benefit in going to a 2.0 or other displacement?

Strictly from a "Shade Tree" view, I would go with the 2.0 as an easy choice.  As an example - If I have to lift 100 lbs and maybe trust life or limb, should I buy a 100 lb jack, or spend a couple extra for the 130 lb?

That may not be the place to save a couple $$$.  Surely your dollars and boat though!

EDIT:  Real experts on here may have a different opinion, so do listen to them!

Read through the idock and engine install/ rigging manuals and found my answer.
Basically the helms rated for 1500 psi are not recommended for use the the G2’s (from what I’ve read).
And the 1.7/2.0/2.4 is not really a measure of strength, but it’s a measure of how many turns and how much effort is required to turn the wheel. With the lower numbers being higher turns and less effort.

So where is the decision then?  I'm surely no helm expert and only trying to help.

That may be the answer - as to what You want to achieve without violating any No-No's.  My thought was just to get a bit better than "minimum required" for Your application.  If I need 100 as a minimum, go for the 130.

This May spark some additional input from the real experts on here, as to what you really need?  Many of these guys were rigging boats before I could spell "boat".  [wink]
