Phil, the V-4 engines are the only ones with an exhaust valve.

Wow, thank you for sharing that knowledge with me rickmcd53. I would love to be able to do those tests on my own someday, until then, hopefully I can find a qualified specialist in my area who will troubleshoot with the same rigor. But I do not believe it’s the engine, I’ll know more tomorrow. And I’ll give those props a look, they’re very small!! I’m assuming the three blade over the four? I’ll post some numbers after tomorrow’s trip that I get from the rebel digital dials! Thanks again!

SOLVED!!

Evinrude SST 15.75 x 13p WOT touched 36mph and just about hit 5800 rpm with the trim fully up. I also learned I wasn’t fully trimming my engine up.. BUT, we’re right we’re we want to be, and we’re STOKED!! Engine runs so much better and made the boat way more responsive.

To anyone who doubts a lugging etec.. get to optimum RPM range.. woke up the engine, boat handles 30% better. Took a few tries, but we got it.



The etec mechanic I took the boat to said it was fine I was hitting 5000rpm at WOT. I’m sure it was fine, but now it’s DIALED! YEAO!
