I'm running at about three hundred RPMs above bare plane speed here in my 24 Superboat with the single 250 HO. That's 3000- 3100 RPMs. I've got about a knot of current with me there so I'm doing about 27 knots through the water and burning a bit less than 7 gph, so what you are seeing is 4.1 NM/Gal on the display.  24" RX4 and my dry displacement new in 1983 was about 2000 lbs. I've got 100 lbs. of ballast in the bow. about 60 gallons of fuel and a portable head in the cabin too.  2 people on the boat. 15 knot wind on our side. Partially cloudy 77 degrees air temperature. Don't know the sea temp. [crazy][wink]

I'd love to see what others are getting out there.  Post em up...

What is your full throttle speed and rpm?

What make, model, and size propeller?

It is a 24" RX4. 2 seasons ago, I was able to turn 5800-5900 and saw 60 knots a few times. This season I haven't been able to get her over 54 knots and 5500 is as high as she'll turn.  I can't remember if I had the full 100 lbs of ballast in the bow when I hit 60 kts 2 seasons ago.

I hold 85 gallons and was full when I launched her.  I'm down to about 50-60 gallons now I figure (not too sure since I recently had my sender replaced and calibrated at the yard, but I haven't confirmed anything yet and for some reason my trip log stopped so I lost that measure on this fill-up). I haven't been out alone yet this season and all of my trips have been pretty loaded with people. Today it was just my GF and I and I was pretty surprised. Same thing: 54-5500 WOT RPM. I know people will say "that's fine with the G2". OK, but I feel like I need to know where I lost about 400 RPMs.

Last season the boat had a new paint job and I was blaming that, but this spring, I went over the boat with a hose and abrasive pad and smoothed it out pretty good. In fact, the barrier coat is showing about 30% right now.  I want to let the paint come off for now, so I plan to keep scrubbing her until the paint is gone this season and then get a fresh smooth coat of good paint again.  after seeing how much paint ablated last season, I'm skeptical that the paint is holding me back... I'm wondering if it could be something else...

Those are good numbers for me. Not sure what my prop is...but I can spin it to 5500

Thanks for participating RedSun! I'm just trying to bring a little balance to this board. Seems like all the messages I see here are problem solving which has tremendous value, but as Mr. Miyagi says: "Lesson not just karate only. Lesson for whole life. Whole life have a balance. Everything be better."

2005 Ranger 621 VS. RX4-22. 5500 RPM 60MPH with a full tank of fuel and all gear on board. Love the engine and the forward performance of the prop. Reverse is terrible. I’ll try an RX3 when it becomes available. Likely a 22 pitch. Fuel mileage is 3.7 average over 30 hrs
