Went out on the weekend to troll for Southern Blue Fin Tuna.
2 hrs of cruising run (about 4000 rpm) to get to trolling zone, 7hours trolling at arouns 1650 rpm, another 1.5 hrs at idle backing up over deep reef for deeps ea species, then 2 hour run back home again at around 4000 rpm.
While washing boat and motor, noticed for the first time ever, some oil residue as shown in the photo.(The white stuff is soap suds).
Is this some exhaust type residue, or do I need to investigate further?
Thanks for any advice

Any of the oil coming out of prop hub?

From color can be motor lube oil from extensive trolling with carbon darken coloring or gearcase lube, the Hi Pro gear oil turns dark after a few hours running hard, oxidizes.

Take it to your dealer.  He'll drop the LU and identify the problem cause.  LU driveshaft seal needs checked and pressure tested.  Gear lube needs to be checked for water.  Motor needs to be checked for over oiling or other oiling system defect.

Showed photo and discussed with my very capable local service guy from The Boat Place.
He is convinced it is an XD100 oil residue that more or less condenses in the exhaust and gearbox area due to the water cooling in that area. Probably because at trolling and idle revs it doesn't get too warm in that area. He's a pretty smart dude with Etecs, so trust his comments.
Will see how it looks after more normal cruising runs.

Next trip out, running at normal speeds and revs (not trolling) all was good - no further residues.
