Your first sentence will be wrong because if no power to the old one then no power to the new one if you have not done anything to the engine harness. Who did you buy it from because they can do it if they are switched on. If not then who has serviced it in the past because contact them and everytime an engine is connected to a laptop it stores an EDF. You do realize that you will need to do some things that you probably will not know how to do and/or have the equipment to prep a new EMM. Did you try an EMM recovery first and how are the battery leads connected to the battery?

Thats sorta the problem, i cant connect to the old one but I am able to connect to the new one, didnt touch the engine harness at all, just unplugged the old emm and plugged in the new one. I have the diagnostic software and have replaced emms before but not sure how to if i am unable to connect to the old one.

So have you ever had this engine connected to a laptop-if so the edf will be there. What about the recovery because it does not sort of add up with what i have seen over the many years of DI engines. I would want to find the root cause to make sure it does not happen with this new one. Where did you buy it from because surely they can answer these questions and as I said if they know what they are doing they can solve your current problem?

Leave J2 on old EMM disconnected and try connecting with Diagnostics sw.

Huey and steelhead have given the proper advice for your next steps. In the event that you cannot get the EDF file then a dealer can submit the EMM replacement form that includes injector numbers and tech help can send a new EDF.
Another method that should work would be to load and EDF from another early 90 (05 - 07? That had the same EMM number), then install injector files for your injectors, calibrate tps, and adjust timing offset. This may be difficult if your have the old injectors with no checksum on the tag.

I havent had the motor connected to a computer before it quit running. I tried leaving the j2 unplugged and connecting that way, have had luck with that in the past but still nothing. Ill take it to the dealer and have the new emm sent out. I appreciate all the help and info

I believe that the current procedure will be for the dealer to obtain the EDF and install it rather than sending the EMM to BRP for programing.

Correct, if the dealer is switched on.
