Hey me and my family are about to by a boat. The guy at the shop is telling me this boat has a 2007 Evinrude E-TEC motor 150 hp. Is this a solid engine? I can’t run it because it’s winter in NY even though he offered to. How long will this engine last me with proper maintenance?

Yes the 2.6L G1 are solid engines and my fav G1 family. No one can answer via a keyboard if the one you are looking at is a good one without a history report and results of comp and leak down tests plus more info. I have seen these engines with over 6K hours on them and it has already lasted 13 odd years so not going too bad.

The simple facts buying anything around 13 years old can be hit and miss and no one on an internet forum will be able to say yes buy it or not buy it or say how much longer it will run. This simple platform without complicated cylinder heads and engine sumps living in saltwater means it has a good chance of surviving many many years. I see and service many 40 year old Evinrude and Johnsons still and all are used in saltwater so that is more than can be said for some engine technologies that have only been made since the industry was forced to go clean in the late 1990's early 2000's.

Get a history report and post here otherwise it is all guesswork.
