Ok, rookie boat owner here. Smoker Craft 182 Pro Mag, G2 150 HO model C150FXHAB serial#05544909. WOT rpm 5200, 42-43mph with 2 persons onboard, 3 batteries, trolling motor, fishing gear. The hole shot is awesome! The boat handles very well at any speed. I am happy with the overall current performance of the G2. My concern is the possibility that the engine will develop issues or be harmed in some way because I am not getting higher rpms at WOT.
I have limited experience with boating and only became concerned after reading some of the information on this forum. I am also not aware of all the proper protocols of using this website/forum? Due to that I made a faux pas by originally contacting someone directly rather than posting this for all to see. I later realized that I gave that party incorrect information! I had said that the G2 is mounted in the 4th hole from the top. It is actually mounted in the 4th hole from the BOTTOM! So it is mounted in the 2nd hole from the top. The prop is a Rebel 19. On the trailer with the boat and motor parallel the AV plate is 3.5 inches above the bottom of the keel. I cannot see the AV plate when on plane. I seem to have a lot of spray at higher speeds but I have little to compare to given my limited experience. Is it possible that the AV plate is running above solid water but obscured by the spray? If I raise the G2 should I be concerned about cavitation? What do you guys think?

If you can’t see the av plate motor needs to go higher. Your mounting hole description is confusing. How many open holes are above the top mounting bolt.? Start there.

Smoker, if I interpreted your description properly you  have two hole to raise the engine, you should be achieving close to 5800 rpms at WOT with the engine properly trimmed  and see the  AV plate on top the water, what prop are you running?

While my boat is a bass boat my 150 HO G2 is 3 1/8” propshaft to pad running a Fury 24 4 blade. Getting 5850-5900 rpm’s n 25+ water pressure. Rule of thumb is to raise engine until you loose water pressure and speed then drop back down 1/8”-1/4”. At that point it is about prop tuning. You need a jack plate to move up/down in small increments.

I have one open hole above the top bolt and 3 open holes below the top bolt. The prop is a Rebel 19 and I had the G2 on auto trim

Move it 2, g 2 likes to be high on transome. On g1 the holes spacing are 3/4 inch I’m not sure about the g2. Is there 5 holes to adjust.?

WOT rpm 5200
Shoot for 5800>6000 rpms WOT light load 1>2 people and light fuel no gear.  Gives normal and heavy load with full live wells margin.

Motor is not even hitting max HP.  Need to raise the motor until the G2 antiventalation plate is above the green water and ONLY light foamy splash on top of the plate.  These motors have to run higher to take full advantage of it's much advanced hydrodynamics design

Less LU drag in the water =s more top end speed and higher fuel economy.

Consider the new design RX3 prop, may give more top end speed.

LU too low creates far more spray off LU.  Check the boat hull at transom for spray take a clear no shake video at high speed.

Raise it 2 holes up. Visually see where the avplate is. Get a good max rpm reading. If the motor mounting height is correct than you can, Try a differ prop to get the desired max rpm range. You probably need to come down in size 2 or 3 ‘’ 16 or 17’’ prop. Raising the motor will give you maybe a 100 rpm more plus a reduction in prop size should give you 300 more rpm. That will get you close to where you want to be rpm wise. Those are guesstimate numbers. Gl.
