That is sweet.  I've thought about doing something similar to my 1956 35 Johnson cowling.......the front "door" would make a perfect mailbox door.

Don't you mean a '59 Johnson with the fiberglass cover with a door in front? The '56 was a 30 hp with the reddish color metal clamshell cover

What's fascinating, is that you know that and there was probably..... an early or mid-year change to incorporate that.!!!!!!!!!!!! I can hang with you on mid- 60's to early 70's motor discussion, but you got me on that one...........as usual wonderful info.

Actually SH, it may be a 57....it is a clamshell type but the front opens like a mail box.

Hi all, just getting back in country and yes I have seen the E-TEC mail box as it is at their test center down the road from me. There is another one that I have seen and it is a 3 cyl early 80's evinrude sticking out of the ground and the front of the cowl opens to the mail, it also is in need of a paint job!!! Very cool[thumb]
