Hi all I have a cranking issue when on muffs it will crank nearly every turn of the key but when I launched at sea at the weekend it just clicked 6 tries before it run I tested it when I got home and fired every turn 10v on the meter on one occasion

Voltage drop test, check wiring, no wing nuts on the battery, correct sized battery. The latter style starter motors work better if all is confirmed as good and the solenoid is not at fault either.

Check your muffler! Had one a week ago that was a hard starter and it had a totally plugged muffler screen.

Sorry fairly new is the muffler behind the prop

No, and if you are that new it maybe above your head but my advise if you are wanting to do it yourself is get in touch with Joe at Barnacle Bills and get a service manual and start reading. All pretty basic stuff if one has some mechanical skills.

I have good mechanical skills on cars but where is it located on this engine

++ to Huey, first thing is getting the Service Manual.  Filter is inside the side covers where the rubber grommet is - another black plastic cover with 6 screws.

Click on this link and via the Instructions navigate to your engine ( model number) and the exploded view will show the part and where it's located. The BRP parts lookup is intended for exactly that but I've used it many times to find a parts discription / location.
