Hello everyone my name is Matt and I haven't been to the Etec forum since E-nation died. By the way I have a 2009 Etec Md.# E115DFXSEF  Having trim and tilt issues. I've read through most of the post's and not sure I've nailed it down. Tilt motor trims down (electrically) and I think its normal but obviously gravity is helping. Going up is the problem. It goes up but very slowly. First I thought I had low batteries but after some simple tests that is not the problem. 12.7 volts to the first lug that the tilt relay steals from. I'm going to do a relay test but thinking its the tilt motor since it acts like a motor problem. so here is some questions.

1) Can a relay do an under volt? (most people I read the motor would do nothing in one direction)
2) I read that the upper limit switch can cause havoc. Is that under the tilt tube? and can you de-activate that for problem solving?
3) If it is the motor, can that be removed without removing the outboard from the boat? Looked awful tight down there.
4) Couldn't find my model online but a similar one that's the same year. OEM Relay is 0586767, OEM tilt motor (5005254) unavailable.... only Sierra part number 18-6281  and one other kind available. Can anyone verify these part numbers?

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Matt

Hi,
I think you’ll find that the Model Number for your motor is E115DPXSEF (that’s P instead of F) which is why you couldn’t find you model online
   Go to
https://epc.brp.com/SiteMods/BRP_Public/BRP_Public_Login.aspx?ReturnUrl=%2fIndex.aspx
Select Evinrude and search by your Model Number E115DPXSEF to look up parts.

Also you can download a PDF copy of the 2010 Service and Repair Manual, which has all the tests in it that need to be carried out, from this link

(I don’t have the 2009 Manual but the 2010 will do the job)

my 75hp  2005 failed the same way

did you check  the oil level ... any obviuous  leaks ???  .

try filling the  oil as per manual ...btw some engines use special BRP BIO oil $$$$$$    I refilled mine  with regular oil as per discussions/comments  on this board ...no issues came up since. (been a few years now)

before  spending $$$ on relays  try  bat and grd on the  connector wires  to the motor as per diag. supplied on I boats  site....

did you apply +12v power and bat directly on the trim motor wires  to test up and down.???

did you check the oil level and/or top it off ???

clear answers can help progressing to a happy ending :-)

Well, ran some more test and found the problem. Tried to crank the starter and it didn't want to turn either. 12.7 volts to the engine but when you crank it it falls off to 5volts. I have duel batteries so I'm pretty sure I have a bad wire. I disconnected wires from the engine and hooked up another single battery direct. Tilt runs strong. Now I have to go wire hunting, or maybe it's in the battery switch. There good, clean soldered ends so I'm surprised.
Anyone know how to check the wires? Continuity test? It would appear the wires are not allowing full voltage.

bad crimps will do it  with oxydation... or  cables  will break stands in bends etc.... battery switch contacs with oxydize .... battery posts  oxydize etc....

or just replace  all wires after checking that gounds and battery junctions  a clean and shiny.

 no wing nuts !!!!

Lol, shame on me. Everything looked clean in fact I would have sweared on it. Got into the bowels of the bilge, scraped and dry brushed/emery cloth everything (in the hot sun of coarse) and it's all good. One last thing, finally got around to replacing those WINGNUTS!!! Hex's nuts from now on!

My 10 year old custom soldered double heat shrinked ends look great still.

Pulled the battery selector switch, which is a bitch by the way, and everything was perfect. Shinny brass. Everything was at the battery's.

I'm now going to go look in the bathroom mirror and say.....Now there is a dumba**!!!
