On the Icon digital display, there is a screen that has an "estimated range" value.  Mine shows 0 all the time.  It seems like there should be a way to get this to show something, no?  I assume it is calculated based on fuel flow and what's left in the tank.  But how do I get it to show something?

For that parameter to be active, the network must have active/valid GPS data.

Estimated range would be based on percent fuel remaining and speed and economy

Well, I'm getting mph without issue, and fuel remaining and economy.  There has to be something else....

Exactly which instrument is installed in your vessel?  What version of firmware is installed in the instrument?

So a higher number is indicative of an older release of the firmware?  Never seen that before....  The rest of the digits are identical.

It is a date code-simple as that and why I said what i said-you do not have the latest versions as Sparky thought might be the case.

Duh!  Didn't see that.  I understand now.  So with the 12/9/16 release they added the value on the screen but they didn't enable it until the 1/30/17 release?

XP8103 asks about specifics of software revision levels:

I don't know if you can make the inference you propose in your question.

The best inference I can make from the prior remarks by ELDER SPARKY is that he recommends updating the firmware in your ICON Touch 4.3 CTS display to revision HV450_2810528_01302017. Exactly what improvements are contained in the new firmware are not specified in ELDER's remarks. Generally the firmware in a device is updated when new features are added or errors were discovered in prior versions. I recommend you follow the advice to update the firmware.

Having the most recent firmware loaded into components of integrated systems seems to be a common recommendation for solving unusual problems with integration of complex systems. Since the calculation of the parameter under discussion (ESTIMATED RANGE) involves integration of data from two other devices and calculation of new values based on those inputs by a third device, it might be difficult for system support personnel to assess the particular combination of devices installed on your boat's network and assist you in achieving a resolution to the problem. Upgrading of firmware in the display device is probably the first step toward resolution.
