This has probably been covered before but I'm going to ask anyway. I have put myself into a position where I need a service, I am near 800 hours and had 300 hour service 3 years ago. I actually am 1200 miles from home but near where the engine was bought new so I thought that I would have them do the service (they did the 300 hour) they are 6 weeks out and I don't want to wait that long as salmon season is here.
I have the service manual, a good bit of tools and above average mechanical skills, but not experienced with high tech engines like this. I am planning to do a service myself, I will order a service kit from Barnacle Bill's....I want to have a diagnostics done but I can do it later.
Anything I need to be especially aware of/careful not to miss?
I plan to do water pump and associated parts, thermostat, plugs...etc

Get kit from BB and make sure to read the water pump instruction regarding setting of Impeller.

Ask BB if there are any revisions you may need to get done in the future.

Be extremely careful removing the fuel line off the lower VST injector fuel line nipple.  They are fragile plastic and break easily.  Your model looks to be using the old style Carter VST with fragile spigots and plastic.

Probably less costly to pick up E. HPF Pro gear lube locally, crazy shipping costs USPS and other shippers for haz mat.

Don't forget the new gear case screw plugs seals top and bottom.  Use a 1/4" torque wrench on these, too easy to overtorque and damage is expensive to repair.

Be sure to pressure/vacuum test the case, 800 hrs, seals are getting long in the tooth.

Any signs of water in gear lube, grey and foamy, new seals top and bottom.

Stock common parts and plan on doing much of the service yourself.  The dealers in this area have already started to drop E.

I ordered my 300 hour service kit from Barnacle Bill's today.
I am traveling for the summer (retired) and called on my cell phone and had a poor connection so I had to call back a second time just so I could place my order, no ones fault, just the way it was, the lady taking my order kept saying she could not hear me well and I sound muffled. [frown]
I live in Arizona, but am having my order shipped to Washington state as that is where I will be in a week. It was a little confusing for her and I asked her if she could send me a receipt via my email, because of the bad connection and having to repeat myself many times, I wanted to be sure that all was correct, especially the shipping address. I was told she could not do that, she didn't have time and didn't know how, there would be a invoice in the box with the parts when they arrived.
I was surprised that a company is doing business today was not able to fulfill a simple request like a email receipt.
I would not have gone to another dealer, I want to support the sponsor of this forum but geez...

Trying to recover from shutdowns and a happy ge surge in the Marine business has been a challenge for all of us dealers. Barnacle Bills is a two person company and you likely caught Yvonne in the middle of handling non stop calls.
