I think that is great news.  Glad to see they are growing market share the old fashioned way, buying transoms!

Old fashion ways? Your not that much younger then I am. We hated it when everything was being bought up and prepackaged. To me its what killed the boating industry back then.

I am much younger AND better looking than you! All kidding aside, I know that being too much to too many people is what killed OMC. However, all the other OEM engine companies own boat lines and sell their engines. I think Rude is smart to do it, we shall see how it works out. Hopefully they dont get top heavy.

Now... boys, boys - Play nice!  [biggrin]

Back in the day, businesses were built on making a whole bunch of customers Happy.  If putting them on transoms does the job, I'm all for it!  Meanwhile, if folks would stop asking "an outboard hack at my local marina" to try to 'decipher' them, that would be good too.  Get those "certified" tech's out there, and maybe get the sales margins up a bit, too?  Making dealers want to sell them may help, BUT you gotta have folks that know what they're doing back in the shop - all the right rigging, understanding codes, etc, etc.

GO 'Rude!  [smile]

Phil

Yeah it's a different business plan in today's world for sure. I would rather see them invest money into there current base and put money into getting dealers to sign up with them. The more dealers they get onboard the better. Right now too many dealers still have a bad taste in there mouths from the old OMC.

Guess it all depends on if BRP bought the transoms with their profits money or with other peoples' borrowed leveraged money at high interest rates.
We all know how OMC did it.

What makes some difference is that Telwater has been pre rigging and distributing E-TECs in partnership with BRPA for the last 7-8 years in Australia.

They make the most popular aluminium boats here, Quintrex (Some of you may have seen it at the launch of G-2 in 2012), Stacer, Savage and trailers to complement the boats.

Most outboard companies here would love to go to bed with Telwater. Yamaha even printed pamphlet's exclusively showing Telwater product some years ago.

With Telwater already being the Australian distributor and selling packaged products I don't see much change.

Just me, but the thing to Avoid is getting dealers without having the knowledge back inside the shop.  Sell 'em, Put 'em on, but also make sure I don't only have Jack the Hammer back there - "We'll throw parts until she's Right!" or "Hey! I been fixin' chainsaws since I could walk...  I can surely fix this 2-stroke."  [wink]

Might leave a bad taste here or there.  [biggrin]

Yep, that's been a problem since the beginning of time.  Evinrude now requires dealers to get some minimum training (enough to learn the basics to reduce the chance of silly mistakes) before they can even purchase G2 engines.  Problem is, some corporate sales types have allowed engines to ship to dealers without the training.  Rules are in place for a reason and there will always be people that break the rules.
