Hi, I am new to this group so please bare with me! I am very interested in buying a used boat and engine package. There is a 2006 etec 70 on the boat with approx 500 hours use. I haven’t owned an Etec before. The seller has been really helpful and has offered me a sea trial and has sent me this from last year. What I am asking really is, is there anything on this that would make you think twice about the engine?

Thank you

With the speed profile and the Max rpm's, I'm thinking lots of carbon to clean out.

Other than that, you'll be hard pressed to find an engine of that age, with that "clean" of a report.

Ask him what oil he's been running too.  The engine is set to use XD-100 and that's ALL that should be used, except for a brief emergency just to get home.

If you do buy it, maybe just me, but I'd do a complete service including the VST filter, fuel vacuum and pressure tests, compression test (Maybe before buying!).  There'll be a long list unless he has receipts that its all been done recently.  That's so you'll know where you're starting from.

Good luck!

Phil

Thanks Phil

I have attached another couple of photos to show what was done last year (3 year service). It has also had new gearbox oil and spark plugs this year for owners peace of mind.

That's all good.  [thumb]  I would like to see something about the VST filter, but many of the tech's don't know it exists.  It was not shown anywhere in the old service manuals.  May not be critical if all else is well!

If the price is right for you, and the trial goes well, "read and heed" the bottom about transferring some weight around.  Then check the engine height trimmed and on plane.  You "may" want to get a bit more rpm's at WOT which could be brought about by the weight transfer, rather than just trying props to get it up a bit.  Ideally 5,100 to 5,200 rpm's, and you can go a bit higher if you sometimes carry heavier loads.
