I'm just about to buy a 4.7 meter aluminum boat with a 50hp etec, but have just found someone else selling the same boat with a 60hp etec. I'm wondering how much of a performance improvement there is going from the 50hp to 60hp etec. As they're pretty similar, is it a big difference?

Yes, 10hp mate. Great engine either way. The 60hp has a water valve in the exhaust housing that flattens out the torque curve.

I have the 40hp that I have converted to 50hp. Great engine.

Figure 9-10% higher top speed.  So +3mph on a 30mph boat.
