Appears I'm going to have warranty claim for a failed gear case. Clunkying noise has developed and motor no longer shifts smoothly. Metal in gear oil confirmed. Motor has less than 600hrs, and the 2nd 300 hr service was performed 2.5 months ago.

Has anyone had a similar situation? How long did the process take?

Yes seen all outboard need new gearbox and the actual replacement is less than a couple of hours-how long your local guys take will depend on work schedule and inventory of said gearbox. I hope when they did the service 2.5 months ago they did check and confirm correct shift shaft height and removing the bearing carrier to see inside the gearcase is an easy job to determine the likely cause and extent of damage.
