hello all I just bought a used E tech it is a 2006 50 hp on a 1650 Lund. I am told it has very few hours on it. Guessing less than 100hrs. I have only ran it in a trash can filled with water. After 5 min or so at 3000rpm the fuel filter runs empty. I had to take the prop off to fit it in the can. I ordered a rebuild kit for the lift pump, it is not here yet, I figured even if that is not the problem it probably is worth it anyway. With no prop on would there be a difference with the crankcase pressure that the lift pump would not operate normally?

The filter easily fills with the prime bulb.

Sounds like the motor has not being used for the last 2-3 years or possibly much longer. I changed the water pump and it was in very good shape. I believe it to be original. I have a cable coming to verify hours as well.

It is normal for that fuel filter to run less than 1/4 full and some run almost empty. The engine uses such a small amount of fuel that it is hard to see fuel flow through the filter.
Add a little XD-50 to your fuel to give it some color to assist in seeing fuel.

Thanks for that. I have noticed alot of people saying that it runs almost empty. I will rebuild the lift pump either way as it is 15 years old. My only concern is that it did go empty. And yes it is almost impossible to tell if fuel is coming in or not.

Little update. I rebuild the lift pump and works good now.
