My mates boat failed over the weekend. Rough running, down to 2 cylinders, could only run at 6knots on full throttle then eventually cleared itself but came back again. Stalls when going into gear now but will idle.

Evdiag says injector 3 open circuit detected. Before we priceup the spare or shipping it to a local dealer, is there any other tests that can be done directly on the injector/engine. It fails to operate on an injector test, no audiable click, so we were thinking about checking cables and measuring injector resistance once it's out the water and panniers off. That said it cleared itself and ran for a while a few days ago like it's intermittent or a blockage

I am having trouble with that injector not firing as well. I havnt been able to track my problem down but in my research I have found that the wire coming out of the emm can get chafed causing an intermittent bad connection. Sounds like you may have that. Follow the wire out of the emm to the injector and see what's up.
If it looks good, I've been told to swap the injector with another and see if the problem follows the injector. Only run the engine at idle when you do or you can blow something up

Thanks bandit. Will check that. It could be intermittent or gradually getting worse. Once the boat is out of water and covers off it will be far easier.

Sound advice. I had the same open code and replaced the offending injector only have the issue return 30 hrs later. Upon further diagnosis found a chaffed wire under the oil tank. Olypopper was onto it.I should have verified the continuity of the wiring instead of throwing a new injector at the problem.. I have a spare injecor on my parts shelf now 😅

Thanks bunker. We will investigate.

I have read about measuring resistance of injector. I presume to check if the coil has broke down. I have put that on the list of things to do and check the loom
