Looking for some general thoughts on a new G2. Boat is a 22' CC bay boat, hull only weight is 2700 lbs. Not really looking to get into the HO engine and while WOT performance is all well and good, I'd be more concerned with a good hole shot and solid mid range economy and performance. If I toss out the high and the low, well the 250 has it.

Reading on THT, a lot of folks are pretty happy with the new G2 and of course there will always be the HATERS!

Thoughts on engine choice ?

I have a 25 foot tritoon boat with the G2 200 HO and the engine is a beast. I hit 49 MPH in it this weekend - with 8 people. Boat weighs 2700 lbs as well... I had a few issues at first (fuel pump and one more small issue), seems to be resolved. The power is amazing. Very fuel efficient as well.

With the exception of the 150 and 225 the HO versions will actually have different engine blocks/other components that will offer considerable differences other than just top end performance.  I wouldn't discount an engine just because it said HO on it.

The 250 v the 250 HO.  The standard 250 has different porting on the block and does not have a water injection system.  Those components on the 250 HO will give it increase mid range economy and performance like what your looking for.  The 250 HO is pretty much the same as the 300 with different software where the same can be said about the 225 225 HO and 250.  Another thing to consider is the resale value of a 300 can be higher then the 250 HO so if there isn't much difference in price then a 300 might be the way to go.

Thanks, I was hedging on the HO due to a higher cost..  I checked with my builder and I can get the 300 for $19K installed. I think I'm going to wait till December to see if BRP runs the 10 years promo again which if they do, would run thru March. 10 year non-declining warranty is impossible to beat.

That's very strong. I have a 22 Manitou  Tritoon with a 150 HO. Boat dry weight is 2550. I can get 42 light load and 40 with a good load.

That motor must be very strong. You beating me by 9 mph easily with 70 HP difference.

$19k seems to be an exceptional deal.  What do some of you other's think?  Is that a low price?  Is that because a builder gets certain savings and may be passing it through?  Is that typical for a builder to do?  Just curious.  Also  ThomasPI, does your last name happen to be.... Magnum?

It is a very good price, that's what my dealer pays for the engine. He's actually a good friend so I pay what he pays. 200 is just a hair over $14K.

We get pretty sweet deals here for sure. Builder suggested even the small block 200 would push the boat well. Top end WOT is different but cruise would be the same
and about $4,000 LESS! Makes me pause for a moment for sure.

The small block G2 200HP is probably the second most powerful 200HP made behind it's big block brother and if the builder thinks it will do a good job i like the small block G2-they are quieter than the big block, but not as if the big block is noisy, but the SB is definitely quieter and $4K buys some good extra toys for the boat.
