howdy guys, been lurking around on these forms and I finally got around to making a account cause now i'm having a problem that I just can't find a way to fix reading old posts and such. So here is my story. My father and I purchased a used boat and evinrude engine, everything looked good so we took the motor off and replaced our old mercury and it ran good for about 5 hours maybe and then started acting up so we took it to the dealership and they said there is nothing wrong with it. So we took it out again and once the engine got warm a cylinder would cut out. So again we took it to the dealer and they told us that again it was fine runs well, after explaining that the engine had to be warm they took it out from the dock and got the same problem and they told us that the computer said it was all fine and no error codes happend. They recommended to replace the EMM and see if that fixes the problem. they said they did not know if it was the EMM, Injector or coils so that brought up red flags to me so i got in touch with a buddy i knew he had the computer program and cable and he looked at the EMM and it had a error code of coil circuit open. Easy; replace the coils; said it done a few hundred dollars. Now an injector has failed on the port side, So we replaced the injector; buddy told me the program would not accept the coefficient number he got from a phone scan with an error stating a wrong fuel type or something, so I called to 4 different dealers and they would not be able to get me the injector coefficients. So my main question is where can I buy this file? Sorry for the rant but this motor does not even have 60 hours on it and evinrude wont/cant do anything without me taking it to one of there dealerships.

by the way its a 2008 115 etec E115DPLSCR

If someone could point me in the right direction that would be great my father is just about done with this motor and I really need this to get fixed before hunting season preferably

I do not know any manufacturer that will help the end user without going thru one of their dealers-simply as that. Where did you buy that injector from because they should supply the info you need to install it.  Not sure why people think only 60 hours on an almost 10 year old engine is a good thing-that engine has sat for extended periods without use and the fuel system of any engine does not like that with today's fuel's having a very limited shelf life compared to years ago.

Also what is the P/N on the invoice that you have when you  purchased this new injector?

You bring up a good point with sitting fuel I never thought of that being an issue, I purchased the injector thru Crowley Marine and the part number they supplied me with is 5007764 same as the invoice.

thanks

Hi Alex,

IMHO from reading your post, I think your dealer(s) is/are recognizing that you... (are unfamiliar with Etec engines) & you are being "taken for a ride". They are trying to suck you for EXTRA BUCKS because, it sounds like you're doing the injector replacement yourself. That means they are not going to be able to charge for the part plus labor for programming & installation. It sounds like they want the "whole enchilada".

As far as I know, (I am quite certain I am correct)... any time an injector is dealer purchased... the injector coefficient file MUST BE... & IS ALWAYS packaged and shipped with each injector!!! ALL included in the purchase price!!! There is No GOOD REASON for you not to have the file!!! Also... they want you to purchase a very expensive EMM costing over $1000 because it MIGHT BE THE PROBLEM??? What kind of knowledgeable & reputable dealer would not know for sure the EMM is bad??? They want you to spend over $1000 on a "MAYBE THIS MIGHT FIX IT??? Plus, they didn't water test it to find the problem as you described it until you forced the issue???

THIS sounds like they may be very innept and/or unscrupulous according to your description of events. And, they should give you the file without any additional cost. I can sort of understand other dealers not wanting (or being able) to give you the file because you didn't purchase the injector from them.

I hope this works out for you. Insist they give you the file. If not, contact Evinrude customer service and explain the situation. I'm sure they will help you out one way or another. Let them know what your dealer(s) are doing & telling you.
