one of my mate's has just purchased a 50hp 2010 etec, seems idle / trolling speed is to high. he's been told by the dealer it cannot be adjusted down. i was talking to my dealer [etec dealer too] yes it can be adjusted down. currently slowiest speed it can troll at is 3.2mph. can it be fixed???????.

Hi, first make sure the control cables are fitted and adjusted correctly as that can change idle RPM and the throttle cam needs to be against stop on the block.

One of the many cool thing an in-line E-TEC can do is the dealer, or owner with a laptop and cable, can adjust the in gear idle RPM by 50 RPm increments down to about 500RPM. What you find is as you slow the engine down it does tend to run rougher, but still OK. Your mate could play with lower pitch props to get low idle speed or do this adjustment with a laptop-Easy to do.

thanks huey i will tell him. by the way whats better to use in my 25 etec in the way of fuel. you see our bright pollies up here in qld are changing all standard unleaded to 10% ethanol, should i use 98 unleaded or go with the standard unleaded with ethanol. i have been told that the 98 makes your engine run hotter in the cylinders ???????? which could cause damage.

Hi, an E-TEC is designed to run on E10, but whether the boats fuel system is-that is the worry and also the fact that boats are not used every day and the fuel can "go off" and phase seperation can occure. I would use the premium fuel if my engine and that is BS about running hotter.

Cheers,

Huey.

Hi, the rope start engine do not provide battery charging standard. P/N 5007741 is the battery charging kit.

Cheers,

Huey.
