Bought & ran boat all last summer no issues...used stabil every fillup, winterized it last fall.
Been having an issue, seems after running wot @ 5200rpm for about 10-15 mins it would sputter hard randomly. Tach would drop 1000rpm alomost like dirty gas? Then I docked it for 45 mins...would not start after? Started up after sitting for another 40 mins..ran very rough after that.   I brought it in to local dealer and they replaced top injector..said it was on the way out. Had them install a 10micron seperator and filled with new gas with 2+4 additive. Took it out had the exact same issue. Brought it back to them and they said it threw a TPS & CPS code. They replaced both sensors and want me to pick it up and try. I asked if tech inspected the vst filter and he said he couldn't on the older pumps...I tried to explain it is in there and he wasn't having it. First bill was $980...now another $540.
Does this sound like normal practice for dealers? I am fed up if this second time around doesn't fix the problem.

I had indexed new plugs...and installed new primer bulb hose before bringing it to them the first time.

My vst filter arrived today from Barnacle Bill, fitted it this afternoon. Mine’s a 2005 75 and the filter was definitely there, nose poking out just like the guys on here said it would be.

Did yours have the quick connect fittings? If so, were they easy to undo?
I know you have to be gentle..thats why I thought I would let the factory trained tech do it..but looks like I will have to do it myself.

If it's like mine, it's that lower right Front fitting on the VST.  Probably(?) has the Oeticker clamp on it, which has to be carefully removed.  You can bend up the tiny little tab to get it to release, or as some on here do, use a Dremel tool, etc. to remove it.  Your choice on the replacement clamp - either a new Oeticker, or a Stainless clamp of the correct size.  If a screw-type clamp, try to hold it from twisting as you tighten, so there's no torque on the VST nipple.

Yes, although ‘quick’ didn’t really describe the process. Push the button with one screwdriver whilst levering the pipe off with another! Not so easy to replace either but went on in the end. I think the tank fittings are a bit more robust than later models, looked like metal rather than plastic.

I try to stay away from SS worm clamps, taking them on and off for maintenance is tough on the expensive formed fuel hoses.

I used these and it cuts right through Oetiker clamps fairly easily.  Full disclosure, i do this every day and can justify the $50 i spent for a pair of cutters.

+1 to what Ryno said about hose clamps. Hard to beat Knipex side cutters-my pair has cut 1000's of Oetiker clamps and more-they would be on the most used tools in the toolbox and have had them for longer than I can remember.

A month ago I had same issues re VST on a 2005   75 TEC…

I sent them  a few links to  educated the dealer which  was surprised and agreed  to  reality ….     he changed the VST ($10 part)  along with my impeller and  diagnostic tests  to check for faults

very satisfied with the dealer who now knows better….:-)

the VST just does not show up on  the 2005 parts listing hence the confusion

Good stuff oakzer!  A VST filter won't throw a code, but is responsible for many a strange problem on here.

At least they did look at the codes, and got it figured out.  Not sure how they came up with the first $980 though.  Maybe your asking about the VST filter got them to wake up a bit?
