Hi guys, I'm new to e-tecs, loving it so far. I'm looking to pick up the diagnostic software and cable. I've been trying to read to find my answer , but can't find it definitively. With this software will I be able to change the oil calibration if its not where I want it? I fully intend on using xd100 and am thinking it should be set that way. Motor is an 07 115etec. I'll be sure to add model and serial number to my profile as soon as I get back to the boat. Great site and thanks in advance for your help!

Donnie

A registered copy of the Evinrude Diagnostic software can program the EMM to change the oil ratio setting.

"my" version of the sw is not registered anywhere and i can change the oil setting and "idle in gear" rpm ... i got the sw through this site.

@ Donnie: i sent you a PM

I made the cable my self, based on this:
http://www.etecownersgroup.com/file?id=650816

Be aware that only older laptops has a 9 pin COM Port.... so maybe you need a USB 2 COM  converter also.

I bought the basic cable with 3 pin "Deutsch" connector @ battsracing.com

Item Quantity Description Amount

Naah, mine is brand new and came with the COM port

It was not cheap, though...

For a USB to serial adaptor, the FTDI chipset is recommended. For example,

How much does the software cost when you obtain it through this website?

Yikes, $27.83!

I found all the parts at Mouser Electronics (on-line) including the 6' serial cable for about $7 and about $9 including a 9' cable.  Digi-Key and Allied Electronics also have the parts but they're both a little more expensive.  Mouser's shipping cost is usually less for me as well.

Amphenol makes a compatible quality plug that can be found for significantly less than the Deutsch plug.  You'll also need the pins and receptacle wedge.

Mouser part #'s

(1) 6' serial cable - 172-1906
or
(1) 9' serial cable - 172-1910

will also need...

(1) Amphenol 3-pin plug - 654AT04-3P
(1) Amphenol receptacle wedge - 654AW-3P
(3) Amphenol 16-18 AWG pins - 654AT60-16-0122

The diagram previosuly posted is what I used and wasnt particular challanging to follow.

I've been curious about the software also. Not looking to do this professionally or really change any settings, just curious about what it can show. Thus I am not particularly interested in paying ~$100 for it. Really wish evinrude had a "read-only" version that they made available for free.

@gfb, From everything that I can tell, the software appears to be just a scan tool. In that 99% of it is looking at data, temps, codes, etc. I am by no means any kind of expert by any stretch. My background is in the automotive field, and this looks similar. I can understand a manufacturer not wanting folks to mess with stuff, but it doesn't take a lot of reading on this site to see that a lot of these dealers can be few and far between. I would imagine it would help consumers and techs alike to have all the information they could to try to troubleshoot a motor before having to haul it all over the place in case it is a simple fix. I'm sure there are calibration updates and so forth for these engines(I have no idea for sure or the frequency of updates either) and the manufacturer can have tight reigns on that.Sorry for rambling on.

Donnie,
It is all here, if you dig a little, cable..depends on laptop connections and operating system. Software, although a sensitive issue...is here as well. Be patient and dig into the site.

Thanks Steve! I'm getting it sorted out. There are a multitude of fine folks on this site. Hoping I'll get to start returning the favors soon, as for now still learning.

You mean this website is hosting the software for download? Can you give us the link, please.
