I have an evinrude etec 115 that hasn't been run in probably 8 months. I had a mechanic drain the fuel that was in it and pump it out. However, he says it won't run because all four injectors and the fuel pump are bad from sitting so long. Is this possible from strictly sitting and not running??

Thanks
Ryan

If the fuel that remained within the fuel system was poor quality or had contaminants in it, then yes.  I seriously doubt that all four injectors are so fouled that it won't run though.  It is common, for fuel injected engines that have high pressure fuel pumps, to have the pumps fail after a long period of storage if not preserved properly.

Well he said it would probably run for about a month before really kicking the bucket if it isn't fixed. He then Quoted me $395 per injector and $500-600 for the fuel pump. Does that all sound reasonable?

A separate pump can be purchased without the vapor separator now.  If you search it on this site you will find it posted in the parts section.  The fuel injectors can be removed and cleaned by the fuel injector man, also on this site at the bottom of the homepage under sponsors.

I'm a bit confused, in your first post he said it won't run, and in your second he said it would run for a month...  Has the engine been started at all?

Sorry. It wouldn't start at all before the fuel was removed. After removing the fuel, adding new fuel plus gas shok, it will start.

No worries, how does it seem to run now?

The removal of the fuel happened today. He said he got it to start but it would not last. Said all four injectors needed to be replaced as well as the fuel pump and the warranty would not cover it due to bad fuel sitting in the tank.

Hi, re-read what Don said ion post no.4 and get this gentleman to do what olypopper said because I would be surprised if you need 4 new injectors and if any outboard injector is damaged due to bad/old fuel no manufacturer will warrant it but insurance might cover the cost IF needed to be done, which I bet a clean and test by Dale, at fuelinjectorman.com, will work wonders. Then make sure he fits back on correctly, tests the boats fuel system using the correct test gear and changes the VST filter as well as all the other filters.

Cheers,

Huey.
